Words, terms & phrases you’re going to hear on The Culture Of It All Podcast

A system of oppression which disproportionately harms women, femmes, trans folks, people in larger bodies, people of colour, and people with disabilities.

The act of quitting dieting and no longer investing time, money or energy into diet related actions or conversations.

A neutral descriptor of a large body, which I use to describe my own body. Some people will use this word as an insult, and I believe context is important.

Alternative descriptor of a large body, I usually refer to ‘plus size’ when talking about clothes and fashion.

The attitudes, behaviours, and social systems that specifically marginalise, exclude, underserve, and oppress fat bodies.

A social movement working to eliminate the social stigma of fat people.

Not plus size, someone who is smaller than plus size.

The discrimination towards individuals because of their weight and/or size. Also known as weight bias.

Refers to the treatment and advantages of thin people in society because of the size of their body.

The act of minimising negativity towards your body, and valuing your body for more than its appearance.

The act of ditching unrealistic body standards and critical language towards your own body.

A self-care eating framework, which integrates instinct, emotion, and rational thought, It’s not a diet.

Freedom from social and political systems of oppression that designate certain bodies as more worthy, healthy, and desirable than others.

The concept that all bodies have worth as they exist.

A system of relationships, beliefs, and values embedded in political, social, and economic systems that structure gender inequality.

The overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.

A rebellious act within society. Living with passion, making memories and doing things you LOVE whilst living in a fat or larger body.

Fat Female Main Character, used to describe a female protagonist who is written into a story as plus size, fat, curvy etc.
